Alumni of the Month: Alyson Faith

My yoga training has given me the ability to follow out my passion of teaching yoga, music and movement to children. My personal philosophy to yoga encourages self-love, self-care and imagination, while focusing on a strong sense of collaboration, community and culture. I select and often compose interactive music that makes learning the postures of yoga both fun and easy to follow.  In addition, the children in my classes learn controlled breathing techniques that can help to enhance their focus, and soothe them in moments of stress. This has proven to be especially important throughout the pandemic. My teaching style makes use of multiple tasks that will engage even the shyest of students and will help them remember the movements of yoga.

My yoga training has influenced my life in so many ways. It gave me the knowledge and confidence to teach and the ability to deepen my personal practice. I use the tools in everyday life- whether it be meditation, breathing, or having the ability to find my center and the humor in where I’m at “right now”.

I took yoga for the first time in college twenty years ago and although I liked it, I did not find myself connected. It was actually “boring” to me. I was hyper and didn’t ultimately understand that this practice could be the grounding that I needed. Sometimes we resist the things we need the most. Or perhaps timing alters our experiences. Ten years later, I was grieving the loss of two close friends and a failed relationship. I found myself at Sonic Yoga. I recall being in pigeon pose and learned that we store many of our emotions in our hips. The tears shed, my body released and I knew this was exactly what I needed for healing. The teachers were and still are so supportive. They have become my mentors and friends. Yoga is a way of life. It has become such an essential part of my being. I am so grateful. ❤️
