I chose Camatkarasana, also known as Rockstar or Wild Thing pose. It’s a heating, heart opening backbend, perfect for letting your heart shine to radiate the light within, especially as the longer darker days of winter approach.
It’s easy to decrease movement during the winter months, we become dormant, stagnant, move slowly – if at all. This pose is a great way to counter balance and combat those days of modest energy. It strengthens the upper body, opening the chest and shoulders while the backbend has a warming energetic effect. It opens up your hip flexors and the fronts of the legs which is perfect for anyone whose living and running around New York City.
I find this pose to be a physically uplifting and rejuvenating reminder that while it’s simple to become dormant, it’s nice to move and heat up the body and let your inner light shine during the colder seasons.
