This “four limbed staff pose” is our first taste of the agni fire in offered Surya Namaskar A. It requires a balance of strength and openness. It allows us to face our fear of not being enough. When approaching chataranga for the first few times, often times we shake, the mind races and the breath gets short because we lack the stability and groundedness to sustain. If we are willing to work this pose into our practice, we will find it will increase not only strength and endurance but it will also boost confidence and determination.
