Pose of the Month: Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, Upward Facing Dog

This pose is all about finding joy in the heart. We are one of the few mammals that walk with our hearts fully exposed. We’re either very courageous or not very smart. 😉 With that said, even though our heart is open we spend a lot of time protecting this, emulating a standing or sitting fetal position. Couple that with tired posture and this space get very stuck. This is a wonderful pose to reverse these effects and the effects of sitting down all day collapsing in the front side body. Stay here a few breaths the next time you practice and really let the heart space open up and watch tension, fear and sadness melt away. Perhaps when you look up in this pose you can’t thing the word “joy” and see if it has any effect on you. Love yourself! See you on the mat.
