Learning the Language

Namaste Dear Community,

I’m writing this to you after I just gave a Thai Yoga Bodywork Workshop for Valentine’s day. It was a wonderful time with some new faces and some old friends. The workshop had a lot to do with tricks and techniques but even more to do with communication. We learned that even if we are doing something technically correct, if it isn’t working for the person we are with then it isn’t really working at all. It spoke worlds about the complexity of the way we communicate in all types of relationships but specifically to do with relationships with the ones we love. When we communicate it becomes less about what we are saying and more about what is being heard. It is less about being right and more about finding the truths. When we are learning to love someone, which never ends, it’s not just about loving them with all our heart, it is also about loving them in a way that they understand, in a way they they specifically can feel. We need to learn their language and teach them ours. We need to be patient in listening and keep our hearts open to what they are actually saying. It might go without saying, but love like that always needs to start with getting to know and loving ourselves. What a wonderful gift Yoga is towards this process, learning to listen patiently using the tools that we have been gifted to find centeredness, strength, flexibility, openness and above all self love. From their we simply add another person into the equation and start again learning about this new wonderful creation of the divine.

Namaste and Hugs,
