Alumni of the Month: Erica Colon

I took my first yoga class during college with my mom.  At the time and for several years after, yoga was a physical practice to me only.  That has changed exponentially since rediscovering the practice of yoga through the years, particularly after taking my teaching training at Sonic.

Yoga to me now is an opportunity to pause, while still challenging myself and my senses.  The practice of Yoga has allowed me to slow down, shift my focus, and most importantly, breathe through the challenges and changes of life.  I’ve always struggled with the need to control circumstances and have come to learn that releasing control is a more realistic and enjoyable way to live.  I am much more patient with those around me and with myself.  I attribute these changes mainly to the lessons I learned and experiences I gained in the teacher training program at Sonic.  Yoga teacher training impacted me in more ways than I’m able to express in words alone.  I’ve put into practice in my day-to-day life the meditation and breathwork.  My daily practice allows me to shift and gain perspective. I feel more connected to my purpose, my family and myself.  I’m forever grateful for the Yogic teachings of Sonic and the teachers I was lucky enough to learn from.
