Alumni of the Month: Amanda de Vera

Yoga has taken me to more places than one. Yoga has given me the confidence and courage to face my fears and overcome challenging situations in my life. It has also urged me to continuously strive to better myself. Yoga has taken me to a state of peace and calmness in times of despair which is not easily achieved as it requires immense discipline and compassion without judgement and attachment to the material world. Yoga has taken me to the bridge between the unknown and known where the present moment is to be lived and cherished. Yoga has given me a great sense of gratitude for all things and takes me to the practice of love for yourself and others. Ultimately, yoga has taken me back to my true self, a journey worth rediscovering and going back to all the time and I’m looking forward to where it takes me next.

Yoga teacher training at Sonic Yoga had a very significant and meaningful impact in my life and remains to have a huge influence on me. It has deepened my understanding and knowledge of the true essence of yoga which has been life changing and altered my perspective in a positive light. It has taught me so much about mindfulness and relating it to my daily personal life. Through that, it has greatly improved my relationship with myself and others and guided me to live a full and balanced life. With the support from all my inspiring teachers at Sonic Yoga, I cannot be grateful enough for my experience and motivates me to share this with others.

Not knowing much or anything at all about yoga, my first yoga class experience was extremely difficult and frustrating. I struggled a lot with most of the poses with the breath and even came to a point of almost giving up entirely. It was a very humbling experience because yoga is undeniably hard, and it needs time and practice. At the same moment, it was the beginning of my appreciation and love for yoga as I learned to keep getting back up when I fall.
