TEACHER OF THE MONTH: TAQ CAMPBELL

Best yoga teacher in New YorkEnduring Self-Care in the Shifting Energy

Happy August Yogis! This month we celebrate the First of Fruits as the top of harvest season begins. We continue our journey through the Summer with contentment and even-paced acceptance of bright energy and abundant opportunities. The bhava is that of steadiness, contemplation, and continuing to pour intentions into our journey and inevitable vision. The subtle bodies take heed in the safe haven we have been building all season, and we mentally prepare to alter energies for the upcoming season.

At this time, it imperative to focus energies on maintaining the breath and opportunities to support positive health within the mind, body, and spirit. Self-care will be of high importance as we shift into this next cosmic phase. This spell allows our waters to be fluid yet calm, our fiery flame to be intense yet unwavering, our Earth to be strong yet malleable, and our space to be expansive yet bathed in the glimmer of optimism. We review our current state and clear any residual holdings to make way for the fresh and impending change.

As we are, and have been for some time, in high ascension energies, self-care plays the role of encouraging discernment and making those, sometimes difficult, decisions to ensure we are setting ourselves up for success in being the best, self-service driven version of our beings. Continue to practice asanas that ground you and offer an intelligent entrance into your mind through the body. Revel in the consistency of the breath as it supports the evenness through your Circadian rhythm. Reflect on all your wonderful accomplishments and let that joy perpetuate your inevitable greatness.

Namaste,
Taq

Pranayama

The simple practice of mindful breathing can help us preserve health physically, mentally, and spiritually. The pranayama technique of Nadi Shodhana has proven to balance each side of the body and provide a channel of clarity for the mind.

As you sit comfortably (on the ground or a chair), spine tall and base connected to the flat surface, you will use your dominant hand to free and restrict your nostrils. Ring finger will be gently placed on the outside of one nostril and the thumb gently on the outside of the other. Your index and middle fingers are “glued” together and can either press softly into your Third Eye (the energic space between your eyes) or folded downward with fingertips reaching towards the center of the palm.

Pressing on the right nostril to “pinch-off” the channel, you’ll inhale through the left nostril, switch the channel flow by then closing off the left nostril and exhale through the right. Repeat this cycle twice more. Before changing the flow to the other side, release your palms on the tops of your thighs and take a deep and observant breath through both nostrils. Practice the technique on the other side to balance out the breath, using the same dominant hand. In the next three rounds, you will inhale through the right nostril and exhale through the left. After the three rounds, reflect on your breath through both nostrils once again.
