Ardha Uttanasana
This wonderful pose borders between the calming effects of a forward fold, the intensity of the activation of the back side body and the stretch in the lower back and hamstrings. It is one of the first poses in Surya Namaskar a where we ask our bodies to do two things at once. We are seeking length in the back side body creating a stretch while we lift up which is activating the very same muscles we are asking for the stretch. It is in this isometric request that we further strengthen long muscles which is so wonderful to our journey through space in time in the element of water and fluidity.
