Alumni of the Month: Caroline Alarcón Loor

My first yoga class experience was not the most positive. It was in a gym and the instructor was pushing our bodies to do things we were not ready for. Then when I went to Sonic Yoga a couple months later, I had a much better experience. The instructors at Sonic helped me to grow but did not force me to go beyond what I was ready for. I fell in love with the classes at Sonic, the incredible community, and later did my teacher training there.

Yoga has taken me many places. I found stillness and that helped me with my anxiety. It has given me peace of mind. It gave me confidence because I challenged myself and continued to grow. Yoga makes me want to be a better family member and friend to people. It has also helped me to make people feel at ease when I am photographing clients.

My yoga teacher training influenced my life in numerous ways. I learned from TT that yoga is a process and not a destination. When I see pictures of people in yoga poses on Instagram – I know it took time and effort. I also learned things to do that help me with my struggles with anxiety. Candle gazing and nadi shodhana (Alternate-nostril breathing) LINK have have helped me emencely. I also learned the importance of having a community. Having a support system and people who cheer you on at Sonic Yoga has helped me form amazing communities outside of the studio (such as my professional photography community).

I am so excited to move back to NYC at the end of this month to take classes at Sonic again!
