What I like most about yoga is the consistency of the challenge. No matter how embedded in the practice you are, there is always something to pursue– in meditation, in your physical practice, or in how you exist in the world. What I like best about this challenge, though, is that no matter where you are in the timeline–whether experiencing “The Great Jade Mat Shed” for the first time, or have gotten to the point you know exactly which chakras are chronically blocked and your precise ayurvedic prescription–there’s a benefit to simply being. You don’t have to arrive somewhere for it to take effect. If you’ve started on the path, you’re there. And much like Mario Kart Rainbow Road, there might be an ultimate destination but there’s a lot of cool rewards along the way.
Most of the time it can be really difficult identifying these rewards. My main goal is to help people pinpoint these successes, no matter how small a victory they may seem. By seeking out challenge not just with the purpose to overcome but with the purpose to stay a little while, sit with discomfort for a second, those tiny personal evolutions will hopefully become clearer and clearer.
