There couldn’t have been a better time for me to reflect on this truly transformative yoga journey as I’m nearly finished with the Sonic Yoga 300-hour teacher training.
I took my first yoga class back in Prague, in June 2011. I was freshly graduated, freshly single, trying to figure out my next steps in life. A friend of mine recommended that I try yoga. I listened. The next day I found myself walking up the stairs to the most magical yoga studio in Prague. It felt like entering a new world. Without even realizing it I attended a classic Hatha yoga class and I fell in love with yoga. From that day the seed was planted, I knew that yoga would always be a part of my life.
Some months later I realized that yoga started having a positive impact on my life. At that time I practiced up to 4 times a week in a studio, and those yoga days were the highlights of my entire week. I met new fellow yogis and felt part of a community. I was truly happy. In that period I decided that I wanted to become a yoga teacher.
It took years before the time was right. Upon my arrival in NYC, I was searching for a new yoga studio to join and practice. I stumbled on a Sonic Yoga Ad in front of their studio. From the first class I took at Sonic I was hooked. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly and to my surprise very advanced in yoga asanas! Sonic quickly became part of my life here in NYC. After a couple of months, I revealed that Sonic offered teacher training programs. So I signed up.
When I started my first yoga teacher training, I had a clear intention in mind. I wanted to become a yoga teacher to help others on their journey and pass the magic of yoga to people who need to heal their souls and bodies. By then I had already read multiple books on anatomy, asana, and yoga philosophy, I was familiar with Ayurveda, had a deep interest in aromatherapy, and I felt prepared for the training. Though the next three months of 200HR teacher training shook the ground under my feet. I discovered meditation and pranayama. Without planning for it, various unresolved issues started unfolding in front of me, finally, I was able to clear my past and let go, so I could move forward and start a new chapter of my life. This purification process was triggered by pranayama and meditation, practices that I neglected in my previous studies, gifts that Sonic Yoga and their teachers offered me.
Shortly after my 200TT, I decided to continue with 300TT at Sonic Yoga. Each of the training programs had an impact on my life. I was now a certified yoga teacher and I felt that my dream had come true, but not fully. I wanted to study more and get more opportunities to learn from experienced teachers. 300TT kept me going during the Covid-19 times. I developed a steady personal practice (Sadhana), part of which is daily meditation and pranayama. That has been transformative and still is.
Yoga has allowed me to tune into my body and mind and rediscover my real self. It gave me tools to better understand the outer and the inner world and through this awareness, I’ve developed an enhanced sense of compassion, towards others and towards myself too.
