Featured Teacher: Keith Partington

Here we are again in a time when it can feel like the world around us is falling apart. Doom scrolling is back in involuntary vogue and we all probably know someone, or are someone, who is personally touched by these most troubling events.

Difficult times are always a test of this practice we love. After all, what is this practice meant to do for us? Better body? Sure. That body is better because it’s becoming stronger and more pliable. This result found in the physical body is mirrored in the mind and in the spirit too. We move through life differently because we practice. Strength means steadiness. Pliability means that steadiness remains despite unexpected changes around us. We who practice find ourselves to be the one others in our circle turn to- and rightly so. Power leads to responsibility and this practice gives us powers others struggle to realize, though of course they possess them too.

Realize these abilities you’ve earned though your hard work means that those around you have someone to turn to and someone to lean on. Then fulfill your responsibility as a yogi.

Practice:

How about we practice once we step off of that mat and roll it up? Be something to someone that they need you to be. Test your strength as a yogi in the real world, just as you test it in your arm balances and handstands. Help someone while growing stronger at the same time. Be a yogi off the mat, when it’s most difficult. That’s why you put in that time on the mat.
