The Power of Yoga Nidra by Lauren Hanna

Namaste Dear Community,

I’ve been practicing Yoga Nidra to help with sleep on and off over the past 15 years. But recently I decided to enroll in a Yoga Nidra Training to dive deeper into the science behind this ancient practice. What I learned blew my mind. Yoga Nidra is a powerful guided meditation technique that is practiced lying down in a state of rest or savasana. It leads us into the hypnagogic state, a powerful place on the edge between being asleep and awake. Once in this state, guided visualization techniques can be used to reduce physical, emotional and mental tension. Yoga Nidra has been proven to reduce stress, improve sleep, heal trauma, increase creativity, reduce pain and improve concentration. Yoga Nidra also has the power to open up the deeper phases of the mind by releasing information from the subconscious and unconscious minds allowing us to create an expanded state of consciousness.

I’ve become obsessed with this practice and have been doing it 2 times a day for the past few weeks. I truly believe it works and it’s so easy to do. All you have to do is lie there, relax and listen. I have been practicing at night before I go to sleep and it guides me into a deep relaxed sleep. I’ve also been using it in the morning upon rising to life my mood and energize my body. Since I’ve been practicing, I’ve been feeling more energized, less anxious and in a much more positive mindset than I normally do as we head towards the darkness of winter.

I’m often reached out to by people, who are suffering in some way, people who are looking for effective healing methods. Just this week, I passed the practice on to a Sacred Fertility client who was experiencing deep anxiety about a fertility treatment. A friend of a friend has been suffering from insomnia and I was able to provide her with this amazing tool with no side effects. Another friend of mine is having serious digestive issues due to stress and he also is someone who is not likely to get himself to a Yoga class. The beauty of Yoga Nidra is that you can do it at home lying in your bed. I’m still waiting for feedback from these people, but I’m pretty positive it’s going to be good. I’m so thrilled to be able to add this practice to my Yoga therapy bag of healing tricks!

And since December is the season of giving, I’d like to share my first Yoga Nidra recording with you all. Please feel free to practice it on your own and to send it out to friends and family who may be experiencing physical or emotional discomfort. Please send me feedback and let me know how it works for you. I plan on making a series of recordings for various conditions and would love to incorporate your thoughts.
