May’s Healer of the Month: David Foster

Born and raised in New York, David is an acupuncturist and herbalist, having earned his Master’s degree from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 2013. My education included four years of studying the principles of Chinese Medicine as well as Tui-Na massage, cupping, nutrition and moxibustion. He completed my externship at the LGBT Center, Housing Works, and practiced for a few years in Los Angeles before moving back home to Manhattan. He’ll never leave again!

Although his present “weapon of choice” is yoga, he holds a black belt in Shorin R’yu Karate, and studied various forms of Qi Gong under the tutelage of acclaimed teachers such as Tom Bisio and Ra Un Nefer Amen. Finally I’ve worked as a blogger and stand-up comedian since 2002, traveling the world, appearing on shows on MTV and HBO, as well as several national festivals.

Chinese Medicine has helped me with his own issues with Gout disease, insomnia and anxiety, and he honestly has no idea where he’d be without it. He subscribes heavily to the principles of holistic medicine, which hold that the body is a system of interrelated parts, and there is no 1:1 correlation between particular symptoms and prescription. Everyone is a unique individual and should be treated as such. He believes a healer’s job is as much to educate as it is to restore, and through the intelligent efforts of patient and practitioner anything is possible.
