FEATURED TEACHER: EMMA PREISS

I started teaching at Sonic a few months ago and have practiced at the studio for almost a year. Admittedly I first stumbled upon Sonic Yoga in search of Dave’s Hot Chicken, but I’m happy to say Sonic (Yoga) has mostly replaced my love for hot wings. The people here are, quite simply, awesome. The community is what initially made me feel a part of something special. Having been a guest of several studios throughout the past couple of years, I can attest that you will be hard-pressed to find a more supportive, willing, and eager group. It’s an environment where you can and want to try again and again, encouraged by the determination (and assists!) of those around you.

Yoga, as a practice, is a philosophy in motion. It’s a toolbox of methods to shift our habits to more closely reflect the life guidelines set up by Patanjali’s Sutras. Through meditation, introspection, and asana, we can filter our experiences and identities down to the carbon copies of ourselves.

This past year I’ve become much more consistent with my practice. While I definitely feel the physical benefits—a six-minute downward dog doesn’t feel quite so daunting—it’s mainly mental. And not in the sense that I now always feel happy or totally in control of my thoughts, anxieties, or limbs, for that matter, but that I know I have a stronger connection to my core. Who I am boiled down to a concentrate. Regardless of circumstances or ever-fluctuating career paths, I have a clearer vision of my true self and the values and principles that align.

I’m grateful to have found a space that can nurture this process of self-improvement. I’m even more thankful for each person I’ve shared space, sweat, and maybe even a mat. Yoga works. Hope to see you all soon!

All the love and good stuff, Emma 💙🤙
