MONICA SHUM FEATURED TEACHER
Throughout my life, I have always been hearing people say, “Seize the Day” or “Live Like There is No Tomorrow”. In theory I totally understand what that means, but in reality, this is very difficult to achieve. We have memories and experiences from the past that shaped our beliefs and perceptions. We all have things in the past that we either wish to live through again, or we have regrets for. Obviously this is limiting our minds to see what is truly in front of us. On the other hand, if we don’t want to live in the future as well. The future is not the reality. It is only our imagination. Our minds like to predict based on our experiences. These predictions can create false expectations, anxiety, and even fear. The present is the only reality and truth. Being able to enjoy the current moment in life, not reliving the good old days or afraid what may happen tomorrow is genuinely bliss!
In yoga, we also emphasis that if we want to achieve bliss, we must live in the present. Through my practices, I believe I am finally learning (still learning for sure) how to achieve that! With daily yoga asana practice, I have been training my mind to turn the focus inwards in that 60 minutes. By concentrating on practicing yoga sequences in that hour, I am able to connect my mind to my body without any external distraction. I am truly dedicating that hour to myself everyday. I often feel a sense of tranquilly and peace after asana practice. It was because my focus was put upon my breath and movement in that present moment. Moreover, doing meditation everyday also helps. Consciously training my mind to be still for just 10 to 15 minute a day, I found this joy that lives mysteriously at the inner landscape of my heart. Enjoy the present yogis!!!
