Dear Family,
I’m delighted to share that my wife Nancy and I have a new addition to our family, and as soon as Young Vince is big enough- very soon- he’ll be a fixture at our Columbus Circle home in NYC. I’ll prop him up on the window sill in Surya where he will sit in solemn judgment of your practice, and my teaching! It’ll be a hoot.
As the date of his birth drew closer, I found I was nearly always in deep contemplation of what really matters to me— and what there would still be room for— in my life, and why. After many years teaching at Sonic, I’m mildly surprised that the birth of my son has me realizing that this community— this cause— feels more important, and more urgent, than ever.
The world around the practice of yoga has changed so much, and the perception of yoga with it, and I still just don’t care. I still can’t get on board with fads and trends piggybacking off of an ancient practice for commercial aims. Yoga is a state. It isn’t a mere activity. It is a state of being, a way of moving through life, transcending boundaries and shifting perceptions. This is Sonic’s place in the New York yoga “scene”. This is our responsibility and my calling. To maintain a home for seekers and to be a guiding light amongst the clutter and noise of contemporary offerings.
You’ll have noticed some changes in our setup recently. You’ll see more soon. We’re going more analog, if you will. Further into center, into quiet, into strength and into steadiness. Emma Preiss will be at my side. And we are here only to serve.
