FEATURED TEACHER
I’ve been a Sonic teacher for about four months now, but it feels much longer. That is because
of the abundance of warmth I have been shown by the community who graciously welcomed me
as a teacher. It is this same community that supported me through my teacher training journey
and time as a fresh graduate of the program.
Two months after Keith signed my teacher’s certificate in January of 2021, I started teaching
yoga at studios around Manhattan, but I stayed as a practitioner at Sonic—my yoga
home—which nurtured my practice. By October of that same year, Keith took a chance on me
and brought me onto the schedule. Since then, my Tuesday nights have been filled with heart,
discipline, growth, and a bit of sweat too.
Having worked at multiple yoga studios now, I can attest to the notion that there is something
special about Sonic. From the plants growing on Surya’s window sill, to the low lights on
Chandra’s ceilings, the studio oozes inspiration and the energy instills a yoga practice that
combines the best of Manhattan values with traditional yoga: one that is deep, strong, resilient,
and timeless. Needless to say, I’m grateful and humbled to hold my position as a Sonic teacher.
While I can continue, I’ll let my actions speak for me. Come to class on Tuesday night and see
what I’m talking about for yourself. The bliss is in the details.
Over the past year, I’ve witnessed the practice of yoga doing what it does best: working. It
works. What a proclamation—yoga works. I came to Sonic Yoga with a spotty headstand, no
chance of a chaturanga, and a clouded headspace. Almost two years later, I’ve taught hundreds
of students how to get into said headstand, corrected countless chaturanga jump backs, and
meditated throughout my week. Time, devotion, trust, community. These are the pillars of yoga
and they are alive at Sonic Yoga. My body, mind, and the connection between the two has
transformed throughout my journey and I’m exhilarated at the thought of where it can progress
in the next two years. Wherever you are in your own experience, time is cyclical, so begin,
enjoy, and notice the subtle differences in yourself that surmise to a larger outward presence
and better inward consciousness.
Yoga is one of the many things that makes my life fulfilling. It is consistent and powerful. I hope
the Sonic community can feel this in my class. I look forward to seeing you there.
I’ll end this flow of awareness by sharing some “about me” details outside of yoga, in case you
are interested. If not, stop reading here.
I work in book publishing and recently took a quiz that labeled me as a “bookish personality”.
Take that as you will, but know that if you ever need a book recommendation, I’m your girl.
Outside of work and yoga, I love to ski. My fiancé introduced me to the slopes seven years ago
(woah, seven?) and as an avid snowboarder he wanted to share a passion of his with me. I
never wanted to hold him back so I forced him to go to the summit and I stayed behind on the
bunny hill for a long time, probably about two seasons. I took lessons and practiced, like yoga,
fell in love with the sport, and now I ski with him all over the mountain every season. Its our
favorite activity to do together and I take sweet pleasure every time I get down to the base faster
than him. Like yoga, I gave the sport discipline, time, energy, and lots of deep breaths. Its all
relative.
Talk to me about yoga, skiing, books, fiancés, whatever you got. I’m here. Thanks for listening,
Namaste
