Dear friend-
It may be of interest that the above title is the number one query we receive at Sonic World Headquarters. We get it daily. The funny thing is we naturally say “why no, we don’t” as hot yoga means one walks into a heated room in order to practice… If given the chance we go on to explain that while we don’t artificially heat the room, ours is a particularly rigorous rendering of Vinyasa and sometimes Hatha stylings, where the practitioner will sweat as much as they might want to, and likely much, much more. But usually, the one who has asked the question has already hung up before we get to this part. It’s a hoot.
Then of course on the other side we get first time visitors who quite often are taken aback by the difficulty of our practices, and even more often by how very, very hot the room gets. Not because we turn up the thermostat, we do it the old fashioned way — hard work.
ANYWAY, there’s a lesson in there somewhere about expectations, preconceptions, communication of intent, etc.
Speaking of! I’ve recently moved a whole 11 miles from Sonic Towers, and I can’t say enough about how much I appreciate the understanding of those around me as I make this transition. I’m not going anywhere. I’d have to be forcibly removed from SONICYOGA and the very best of luck to those who would try.
So far I’ve been a little light on details but that’s due to the above potential pit falls — expectations, preconceptions, communications of intent. When I know what it all looks like you’ll know.
In the meantime, I’ll be teaching a Sunday double and I hope you’ll consider joining me for both. The classes with not be the same with more or less technical stuff added— they’ll be very distinct and both will be harder than good sense would dictate.
I’ll also squeeze myself into weekdays, lunch or late morning, ASAP. Should I add some virtual offerings from the Sonic NJ annex? Talk to me!
What else? I’ve wrested Mitch from his relentless schedule of galavanting and strapped him back down to the desk, as Emma is busy becoming the next star pastry chef. This won’t keep her from teaching, thankfully. Keep an eye out for community classes showcasing our future, and keep those eyes peeled for the debut of our long-awaited merch drop, designed by none other than Sydney Richter.
And tell your pals our yoga is hot.
