Where has yoga taken you?

When I finished Sonic’s YTT program, I started teaching at a boutique studio a few blocks from my place in Morningside Heights. I was working full-time at a corporate job but taught an evening flow class, which gave me the balance I craved.

I moved to Atlanta a few years later and taught a class or two a week at a neighborhood studio and then at my gym. It was such a great way to connect with the community, meet new people, and deepen my own practice.

Even though I no longer teach, what I learned from my experience at Sonic and beyond has been invaluable and life-changing. I practice yoga nearly every day — sometimes a sweaty vinyasa flow at a local studio, more often 10 minutes in the morning on my bedroom floor. I love sharing the practice with my friends as well; I drag them to classes with me and I’ve led yoga sessions on group trips, at friends’ bachelorette parties, as part of a fundraiser, and more.

How did your yoga teacher training influence your life?

Between my work leading a team at a fast-growing tech startup and parenting a toddler, yoga has been core to my daily wellness routine, helping me stay healthy and grounded. Not only the physical aspect of it, but the meditation practices and core teachings I learned from Sonic YTT are things I tap into often.

The physical and mental benefits the practice of yoga provides influence every aspect of my life. I attribute so much of my strength, alignment, presence, and inner peace to the practice.

What was your first yoga class experience?

I don’t remember exactly (my first class was in high school!), but for me, yoga was not love at first flow. It took me a while to find the styles and rhythms that I connected with. Yoga is such a personal experience; there is no one-size-fits-all! For anyone who says they don’t like yoga — keep exploring! There will be something that resonates with you and gives you exactly what you need.
