Where has Yoga taken you?
I think the better answer is to the question how has Yoga kept me from getting too far away. When it was first introduced to me, Yoga was simply a way for me to condition my body, as I was involved in a rigorous dance program. It wasn’t until college that I began to understand that I needed something to keep my stress, depression and anxiety in check. I have been able to move around and pursue different experiences as a result of my Yoga practice that keeps me grounded and helps me stay true to my desire.
How did your yoga teacher training influence your life?
I don’t know if any of my teachers or fellow classmates will ever know how important my teacher training was for me. For someone who doesn’t learn like “most people” and who never excelled in the traditional school setting, it was so refreshing to be taught in a way that made sense to me. A way where we as learners had the opportunity to apply new ideas into motion in the moment. Where both teacher and student got to learn from each other, and there was freedom to move at your own pace; your own flow. Your first 200hr group is like your family. I still keep in touch with so many of my classmates.
What was your first yoga class experience?
My first yoga class experience at Sonic (I’ll mention Sonic because I don’t remember my very first class) was very fun. I remember feeling welcome. I felt that the community was warm and quirky. The class was hard but the teacher encouraged us to dig deep and find strength and vulnerability. Classes at Sonic usually leave you feeling quite transformed.
