Where has Yoga taken you?
On the surface, yoga seems like just a physical practice. But in my experience, it is actually a journey inward to who you are in relation to the world. One of the greatest lessons I learned in my yoga teacher training was how to create the space to explore who I am, what my values are, and how I am connected to others around me. Yoga has given me the power and tools to be grounded so that I can stay true to myself.
How did your yoga teacher training influence your life?
My yoga teacher training has been a huge influence in my life. The Sonic YTT program allowed me to dive deeply into the foundations of each pose, the anatomy of our bodies, and how to build sequences with purpose. I also learned so much about the history and philosophy of yoga and have a deeper appreciation for the roots of the practice. But most importantly, I found a community of kind, inspiring, and beautiful yogis who have touched my heart and have become like a second family to me.
What was your first yoga class experience?
My yoga adventure started when I was 13 years old. My godmother had recently become a certified yoga teacher and introduced me to the wonderful practice of yoga. Earlier on, my practice was much more externally focused – working to get a pose just right and advancing in my physical practice. But over time, I started to understand the power and depth of the spiritual practices of yoga and I have never looked back since.
